BRISTOL, Tenn.-Va. (March 6, 2025) – Scott McMicken, founding member and primary songwriter for the band Dr. Dog, will headline WBCM Radio Bristol‘s Farm and Fun Time show March 13, 7 p.m. ET, in the intimate performance theater at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. Roanoke, Va. wonderkind Colby T. Helms is also on the bill.
“This is Scott’s first time back in Bristol since Dr. Dog performed at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in 2021,” said Farm and Fun Time host and Radio Bristol Program Director Kris Truelsen. “Colby T. Helms is an emerging talent and just signed to a label – definitely one to watch. Seeing these artists together in such an intimate setting is very special.”
Scott McMicken is a founding member and primary songwriter for the Philadelphia-based band Dr. Dog. Since the band was formed in the 1990s, they have toured the globe relentlessly and released hundreds of songs. Scott has been releasing solo material under two new projects, including Scott McMicken and THE EVER-EXPANDING – a loose and improvisational-based, jam-out style collaboration project – and THE HYPOS, an ongoing experiment with songwriting partner Greg Cartwright. McMicken has been recognized for his innovative approach to blending classic rock influences with modern sensibilities, earning him a loyal fanbase and reputation as a standout figure in the indie music scene.
A veteran performer in the Blue Ridge-Appalachian mountain region by the age of 18, Colby T. Helms wrote the songs that would become his upcoming semi-autographical concept album, “Tales of Misfortune,” as a senior in high school. With starkly honest songwriting and a sharp, angular twang, Helms strikes a dynamic balance between country storytelling, bluegrass energy, and blues power. This year he inked a deal with Photo Finish Records as he shines a light of hope on a very special part of the country.
Kris Truelsen has spent the better part of two decades touring across the country, honing his craft as a songwriter and performer. With his latest project fronting the Farm and Fun Time House Band, he leans into the rock ‘n’ roll side of country music. It’s rowdy, loose and unmistakably Kris. The band features an all-star lineup including Nick Lawrence (guitar), Rebecca Branson Jones (pedal steel), Sarah Griffin (bass), and Levi Trent (drums).
Tickets to Farm and Fun Time are $40 (+tax/fees) and may be purchased online through the Events page at BirthplaceOfCountryMusic.org.
