BRISTOL, Tenn.-Va. (Oct. 7, 2024) -Just in time for spooky season, Cam Collins, co-creator of the award-winning podcast “Old Gods of Appalachia,” will be the featured guest of Speaker Sessions, the monthly series hosted by the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. The event will be held at 7 p.m. EST, October 8, at the museum and will stream online via YouTube. Attendance is free, but guests are asked to RSVP. This event is free and open to the public; any monetary donations dropped in the program donation jar will be given to a local vetted organization focused on Hurricane Helene relief and recovery.

“Old Gods of Appalachia” is an eldritch horror fiction podcast set in an “alternate” Appalachia, a world where the mountains were never meant to be inhabited. Though the setting is eerily similar to the hills and hollers we’ve grown up with, there are tell-tale differences. Names of towns and counties may be altered; historical events slide forward and backward in time. Then of course, there are monsters.

“Cam is a native of Wise, Virginia and longtime resident of Bristol,” said Dr. René Rodgers, head curator of the museum. “She and all of the folks associated with ‘Old Gods’ are creative and engaging storytellers, and this is a wonderful opportunity to dig deeper into this alternate Appalachia universe. It’s definitely a must-see experience for fans of the podcast and anyone who wishes to get into the spooky spirit of Halloween!”

The critically-acclaimed audio drama podcast was the first professional podcast nominated for a World Fantasy Award in 2022, has received a total of 59 Audioverse Awards, and won the Best Overall Podcast in the 2021 DiscoverPod Awards. The podcast boasts 16 million unique downloads since its launch in late 2019. A roleplaying game based on the series was recently announced.
