BRISTOL, Tenn.-Va. (Oct. 22, 2024) – In partnership with the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, Bristol Public Library and Washington County (VA) Public Library, and as part of their NEA Big Read programming, Hoot and Holler Stories returns to Historic Downtown Bristol at 7 p.m. EDT, Nov. 2. The event will be held at the museum; there is no cost to attend, but folks are asked to RSVP.
Hoot and Holler is a live storytelling event based in Roanoke, Va. that builds community by encouraging people to step up and share their true stories in a supportive, diverse, and empowering format. The theme for the evening is “River Wide, Mountain High: Stories of Where We Live.”
“‘River Wide, Mountain High’ is a night of true stories devoted to where we live – a valentine to our sense of place,” said Lee Hunsaker, Hoot and Holler founder. “These are rich stories of deep roots; rites of passage, food and music, back roads and front porches, bloodlines and chosen family, of finding home and sometimes losing our way. Hoot and Holler strives to showcase a wide spectrum of experiences and perspectives and this event represents the very best voices of that mission.”
The Bristol event will feature six storytellers as well as three regional singer-songwriters in the intimate McGlothlin Foundation Performance Theater at the museum. Fans of NPR’s “The Moth,” “This American Life,” “Mortified,” and other storytelling events and podcasts will love being part of the audience for Hoot and Holler.
