Grammy Award-Winning Songwriter Becky Buller and Her Band at Farm & Fun Time April 11
The Matchsellers, Chatham Rabbits Also to Perform on Radio Bristol’s Live Variety Show
Bristol, Tenn./Va. (March 11, 2019) – Two-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter Becky Buller returns to Bristol with her band to perform on Radio Bristol’s popular Farm and Fun Time live variety show on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Folk duos The Matchsellers and Chatham Rabbits will also be guests on the program – in addition to everyone’s favorite house band, Bill and the Belles.
Buller, an outstanding multi-instrumentalist and Minnesota native, is a former student at East Tennessee State University who also took part in the college’s Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Studies program. Since graduating in 2001, Becky’s list of professional achievements continue to mount; her songs have been recorded by artists including Ricky Skaggs, Rhonda Vincent, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, among others, and in addition to the Grammys, she has also earned a number of awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) including being the first female to win Fiddle Player of the Year. She was also the first artist to ever win in both instrumental and vocal categories at IBMA.
The Matchsellers are Warsaw, Indiana native Andrew Morris and Julie Bates of Kansas City, Missouri. Their exciting, gritty, and often hilarious stage show has been developed over 6 years of touring across the U.S. and Europe. The two met while working as American Cultural Ambassadors in Germany via the Fulbright Program and began exploring traditional American music from abroad. Since then, they have collected influences from various regional styles of American folk music including bluegrass, old-time fiddle, hambone, fiddlesticks, Cajun, Gospel and others. Their work has delved into subjects as academic as “German-American Musical Exchange” and as wild as “Science Fiction Bluegrass.” While a focus on humor and absurdity permeates their show, they are dedicated interpreters of tradition whose excellent musicianship, songwriting and taste are never overshadowed.
It’s been about music from the get go for Chatham Rabbits’ Austin McCombie and Sarah Osborne McCombie, who first crossed paths in 2013 when he spotted her onstage at the Cat’s Cradle opening for Mandolin Orange. He didn’t know much about old-time music and she didn’t know much about him, but they figured it out. Music is the reason they met. It’s their past time and gift to others. Together they’ve played smokey bars, summer festivals, busked on the streets of Nashville, put a tune to the love at their best friends’ wedding, and led churches in old-time hymns way past it was time for Sunday lunch. This past summer, the duo decided to leave their corporate careers to take Chatham Rabbits full-time. The two tour full-time in a van with their hound dog Ruby.
A revival of the former WCYB radio program that aired from downtown Bristol in the 1940s and 1950s, Radio Bristol’s Farm and Fun Time is original programming the entire family will enjoy. With comic segments and live ads performed by house band Bill & the Belles, an heirloom recipe segment, and a farm report, Farm and Fun Time is appointment viewing/listening for audiences of all ages.
