BRISTOL, Tenn.-Va. (Nov. 14, 2024) – Film composer, percussionist and singer-songwriter Joachim Cooder and Tyler Ramsey are guest performers on Radio Bristol’s “Farm and Fun Time,” Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. ET, at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Historic Downtown Bristol. Hosted by Radio Bristol Program Director Kris Truelsen and the Farm and Fun Time House Band, “Farm and Fun Time” is a high-energy television and radio program that features nationally touring roots music artists and celebrates the diversity of Appalachian culture.
“Joachim Cooder and Tyler Ramsey each bring something sonically unique to the stage,” said Truelsen. “Having both of these exceptional musicians perform live on the same bill is a rare treat that perfectly complements the magic of their individual styles.”
Joachim Cooder has been a sought-after percussionist for more than two decades. Known for his recordings with his father, renowned guitarist Ry Cooder, on projects like the landmark Buena Vista Social Club sessions, Joachim has played with an array of artists including Mavis Staples, Dr. John, Johnny Cash, and Ali Farka Touré. Touré inspired Cooder to take up the mbira, a traditional instrument of the Shona people of Zimbabwe, and the instrument is featured prominently on his latest album, “Dreamer’s Motel.” FolkAlley.com proclaims the album “…transports listeners into a boundless sonic stratosphere in which reality is imbued with the visions of hope that live in dreams and memories.”
Tyler Ramsey, formerly the lead guitarist for Band of Horses, released his fifth album “New Lost Ages,” earlier this year. Produced by Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty), album is “an ongoing sonic quest – meticulously wandering across the musical landscape, this undulating tone of indie, rock and folk stylings.”
Playing the intimate, 100-seat venue at the museum seams right up Ramsey’s alley. “I’m more and more drawn to playing intimate shows for people,” he said. “Stripping away smoke and mirrors, being in a room with people and trying to create a moment – one person with a guitar and a room full of people that want to listen.”
