BRISTOL, Tenn.-Va. (Oct. 24, 2024) – Join the conversation with nationally renowned photographer Ed Rode and his Grammy award-winning songwriter-musician friend, Don Henry, as they share stories and music related to Ed’s exhibit “Songwriter Musician”, currently on display at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Historic Downtown Bristol. The event will be held in the museum’s performance theater at 7 p.m. ET, Nov. 9. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP at no cost, and encouraged to stop by the museum at 6:30 p.m. to tour the special exhibit prior to the program. The program will be live-streamed via WBCM Radio Bristol’s YouTube page.
“‘Songwriter Musician’ is a wonderful exhibit and this program is an opportunity to engage with the creators, hear stories behind the photographs, and listen to several of Don Henry’s songs,” said museum Head Curator, Dr. Rene Rodgers. “In addition, a curator will be on hand to answer questions for those who wish to come early and explore Ed Rode’s beautiful photographs. Copies of his book will also be available for anyone who wishes to purchase a copy and have it signed.”
Nashville-based photographer Ed Rode (pronounced Road-ay) has built a reputation as a photographer with a storyteller’s eye and a historian’s instincts. For more than four decades he has made a name for himself shooting everything from sports, movie, TV and music legends to travel destinations and restaurants, and his work has appeared in numerous national publications and as album covers. Currently a full-time professor at Murray State University, Rode has passed on his skills to the next generation as an instructor and lecturer at a number of higher learning institutions.
Don Henry’s songs have been recorded by some of the industry’s greatest artists including Ray Charles, Conway Twitty, Patti Page, Blake Shelton, and Miranda Lambert. From Joey Ramone to Keith Urban, he has also shared the stage with a diverse range of artists. His songs, filled with wit and wisdom, are renowned, from the hilarious “B.F.D.” to the biker lullaby “Harley” to the poignant tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., “Beautiful Fool.” Don’s country classic “Where’ve You Been” won a Grammy, with Kathy Mattea’s version winning Song of the Year honors from the Academy of Country Music, Country Music Association, and Nashville Songwriters Association International – the first song in country music history to win all four in the same year.
