Instrument Drive

The Birthplace of Country Music Museum continues to be a drop-off site in downtown Bristol for Hurricane Helene relief donations, which will be distributed to vetted local agencies who are working to get supplies to our neighbors in need in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.

We are also working with ReString Appalachia and Woodsongs and to donate stringed instruments to replace those lost by musicians in the storm. Drop off is Tuesday through Sunday during regular business hours (closed Mondays).

Any playable instrument in good condition will be accepted for donation through the first quarter of 2025 with the exception of heavy pianos. The list of instruments needed includes, but are not limited to, the following:

Acoustic

Banjos, guitars, mandolins, upright bass, Dobro
Orchestra Violins, viola, cellos, double bass, harp
Marching/Concert Band Trumpets, flutes, saxophone, french horn, cornet, trombone, mellophone, tuba, sousaphone, piccolo, cymbals, glockenspiel
Percussion Tamborines, congas, drums, timpani, cybmbals
Electric Guitars, bass, keyboards
Gear Amps, tuners, pedals, mixers 24 channels or smaller

Instrument donations will be accepted at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum’s front desk during regular business hours Tuesday through Sunday. Cash donations should be made directly to WoodSongs or ReString Appalachia. For instrument donations, please complete the form on either the ReString Appalachian’s website at americansongcatcher.com/restringappalachia or WoodSongs website at woodsongs.com/helene and note which organization when dropping off the instrument for tax purposes.

If you are a musician in need, you may apply to receive replacement instruments or gear either through or through ReString Appalachian’s website at americansongcatcher.com/restringappalachia. or WoodSongs website at woodsongs.com/helene. Please do not apply to both for assistance.

The following hurricane relief donations will also be accepted:

  • Small heaters/Propane heaters/”Heater Buddy”
  • Large propane tanks and small propane canisters
  • Generators
  • Chainsaws
  • Dehumidifiers
  • New blankets
  • Hand warmers
  • New winter clothing (men’s and women’s sizes 3XL to 4XL)

Items not needed at this time include food, paper goods, cleaning supplies, pet food, rakes and shovels, diapers and water.
