Radio Bristol brings back appointment programming with Farm &Fun Time, a throwback to the golden era of radio when families crowded around their consoles to enjoy live variety shows filled with music and laughter. Farm & Fun Time pays homage to the classic WCYB Radio program that broadcasted from Bristol in the 1940s and 1950s. The show helped launch the careers of Curly King, The Stanley Brothers, and Jim & Jesse McReynolds.
Farm & Fun Time features live musical guests and a Farm Report segment highlighted regional farmers working to preserve their way of life. Friends share recipes and great stories from their Southern tables in the Heirloom Recipe segment, and house band Bill & the Belles delights audiences with their vintage radio sponsor jingles.

Lonesome River Band’s vocal and instrumental talents seamlessly come together as they perform their trademark sound that fans continue to embrace. Their vocal and instrumental skills are performed by: acclaimed singer-songwriter Brandon Rickman on lead vocals & guitar; the 2017 IBMA Momentum Award Vocalist of the Year Jesse Smathers on lead vocals & mandolin; fiddle extraordinaire Mike Hartgrove; outstanding bassist Barry Reed; and Virginia Country Music Hall of Famer, Steve Martin Prize Winner, and five-time IBMA Banjo Player of the Year, Sammy Shelor.
Lonesome River Band’s long career has been filled with numerous awards and accolades from IBMA and SPBGMA and continues to be one of the most popular and influential bluegrass acts performing today.
When Irene Kelley left her native Pennsylvania to move to Nashville in 1984, she brought along her guitar, a handful of original material and a love for traditional and bluegrass music. She was signed to MCA Nashville’s country division and was adamant about having Carl Jackson, Sam Bush, Mark O’Connor and other bluegrass musicians join her first recording project. This was at a time when bluegrass instrumentation had fallen out of favor along Nashville’s Music Row, so Irene concentrated on the songwriting that exposed her music to millions through hits like “A Little Bluer Than That,” for Alan Jackson, as well as songs performed and recorded by Loretta Lynn, Trisha Yearwood, and Rick Skaggs. More than three decades later, Irene has assumed her place in a long line of great American songwriters.
