About the Event

Join us for a symposium delving into the technology, impact, and legacy of the 1927 Bristol Sessions. Following a screening of a portion of the PBS documentary American Epic with producers Allison McGourty and Bernard MacMahon, author Barry Mazor will consider the impact of the Bristol Sessions. Ralph Peer II, CEO of peermusic, and wife Liz Peer will provide the keynote.

2:00 p.m. — Welcome and Introduction by Museum Director Dr. Jessica Turner

2:15 p.m. — Screening of American Epic with producers Allison McGourty and Bernard MacMahon, including discussion of film and Bristol

3:30 p.m. — Q&A with American Epic producers

4:00 p.m. — Coffee/tea break

4:30 p.m. — Ted Olson, author of “The Bristol Sessions: Writings About the Big Bang of Country Music.” Introduction.

4:45 p.m. — Barry Mazor: “The True Impact of the Bristol Sessions: What Ralph Peer Was After, What He Found—and What Difference it Made.”

5:30 p.m. — Keynote by Ralph Peer II and Liz Peer: “Technology and Impact of Peer’s Bristol Sessions and Early Commercial Recordings”

6:30 p.m. — Panel discussion with participants, moderated by Jessica Turner: “Convergences in 1927:  Legacies of the Bristol Sessions”
