      WOPI - 1490 AM, Bristol, TN

      WOPI (Watch Our Progress Increase) was the first broadcast station in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. In its early days, WOPI broadcast live programs, such as WOPI jamboree, which featured local musicians. In the 1930s and 1940s, WOPI's broadcast studios were located in the same building where Ralph Peer held the 1927 "Bristol Sessions". Tennessee Ernie Ford, who grew up in Bristol, started his career at WOPI.

      Kentucky Mountain Community Radio

      Public radio from Appalshop, a media arts and cultural center located in Whitesburg, Kentucky, in the heart of the Central Appalachian Coalfields. Appalshop began in 1969 as a "War on Poverty" program to train mountain young people in media production skills. Today, Appalshop continues to produce and present work that celebrates the culture and voices the concerns of people living in the Appalachian Mountains.
